Seasonal News from Richard A.D. & The Metro Underground…

I just wanted to get out the word that the annual build-out for The Metro Underground is now complete (just in time for the spring party season). As of late, we've seen a broad spectrum of recent additions, so I'd like to take this opportunity to reintroduce The Metro & what we're all about.

Our mission is simple: to serve as primary gateway to the Entire Spectrum of the underground, alternative, & adult scene for DC, Baltimore, & the Mid-Atlantic Region (from Philly to Richmond). We provide a synergistic means to lift the fog for what's going on in & around the area, assist in the promotion of the scene as a whole, & provide a synergistic forum for bridges to be built from one culture to another, & from one group to the next.

This includes but is not limited to: alternative music (dubstep, rave, goth-industrial, EBM, etc), alternative cultures (medieval themes, pagan, Celtic, burning, steampunk, etc); the fetish, fantasy, & BDSM culture; the swinger & lifestyle communities; those into poly or open relationships; the gay, bi, transgender, & transvestite cultures; as well as anyone on the fringe who simply wants to explore their interests outside the norm.

We list clubs & groups, resources & culture, FULL calendars, recurring events, national events, as well as news & notes from around the scene. Essentially, we give you everything you need to be completely plugged in & in the know.

We also maintain pages for Facebook & Fetlife (Twitter also updates from Facebook). Postings to Facebook tend to be focused on alt music, alt cultures, & the club scene, while its kinky cousin on Fetlife carries an emphasis more toward adult opportunities.

But keep in mind, the real action takes place on our main page:  http://www.TheMetroUnderground.com.

Please Note: we've made a few changes in our format. Weekly Recurring Events are no longer listed on the Main Calendar (except for special theme nights). From now on, weekly gatherings will be listed under Recurring Events. Also, our newsletter is now archived through Blogspot (http://metronewsletter.blogspot.com), not the now obsolete LiveJournal. Finally, we've added a new section to News & Notes called "Coming & Going" - this will be used to track clubs & groups which have gone inactive vs. those who are recent additions.

Metro Events:

In addition to our endeavors online, we also host select events throughout the year. These are generally lavish affairs w/ top DJ’s & great entertainment in some of the best venues available. We always draw a high energy crowd from across the spectrum, & roll well into the morning hours.

Our largest event (by far) is the DC Fetish Ball. Held each October, DCFB has become internationally recognized, & is featured in such well respected publications as Von Gutenberg, Skin Two, Regen, Fixe Magazine, as well as a handful of others.

I'm pleased to say that the past Ball was w/out question our best event to date. Be sure to pick up a copy of Skin Two Issue 64 for our most recent publication, or visit http://DCFetishBall.com

Following the success of DCFB, we went ahead to host the Black & White Ball. Hosted on Black Friday & offering a special birthday celebration for DJ Cosmo & what has since become my ex-fiancĂ©, it was a great night & a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season. People have asked if we plan to make this an annual event, but we're in question if we'll do so. The final decision will be made by the next DCFB.

More recently, we hosted PROHIBITION. Honestly, this made the Black & White Ball look like a dress rehearsal. It was true Metro Event in that it drew together a huge diversity of the overall scene. We had people there to dance & take in the music. We had kinksters & swingers alike. We had people from the burner community, rave culture, goth, gay - you name it! In the end, it was an incredible night w/ an amazing crowd. The energy carried forth on the dance floor, in the playspace, & lasted well into the morning hours. Driving off such a monumental success, this will mark the first of what will soon become our annual spring formal (to be held under various themes). We need only a few tweaks (the bar) to help make this venue even better for next time.
  • LOST & FOUND:  We recovered a woman's black coat at Prohibition. We understand that her boyfriend may have accidentally taken the wrong jacket. In its place, a black fake-fur reversible satin long coat was taken. It belongs to a friend & she'd really like to get it back if possible. We also picked up a grey pinstrip suit jacket at the Black & White Ball. Mistakes happen, so if anyone has any info please contact Rick@TheMetroUnderground.com. We'd like to get the right items back to the right owners.
I want to thank EVERYONE who has supported our various events over the years. I can't tell you what it means to be working w/ such a great group of people, or to have such support from across the scene.

Calendar / News & Notes…

As I said, the annual build-out for The Metro is now complete. So be sure to check out our various calendars for a complete run down of what's currently in the works. The  stay in the loop for what's going in & around the scene through News & Notes.

In the meantime, here are a few items for April & May that you may want to keep an eye on…

Fri 4/12 - Bound Returns to DC: the area's longest running themed dance night returns to the district. Launching their return w/ Bound in Wonderland, they will host a club night on the 2nd Friday of each month at the upstairs club-space of Phase I in Dupont.

Sat 4/13 - Tabu Celebrates 9 Years:  While DC ushers in a new era for Club Fantasies, up north, Baltimore's most recognized Swing Club will be celebrating its 9th year in operation! Vicky & Rick have put together a great affair as they turn the final corner to soon witness a decade in the scene. Good Job!

Sat 4/20 - The Return of Club Fantasies:  Formally Capitol Cream, Club Fantasies was for a short time affiliated w/ the Crucible. However, they have more recently moved back their roots to offer more intimate private parties for couples in the area. Under the guiding hand of Sir Angelo, they unquestionably offer one of the region's best events for the DC Swinger Set. See News & Notes for the full rundown or Groups for full contact information.

Sat 27th - Fire & Flow Arts Retreat: Hosted by Dance-a-Fire Production in Orange, Va.

Sat 5/4 - Peter Murphy Comes to U St. Music Hall: See Main Calendar for Links & Tickets.

5/17-19th - A 'Touch of Flavor' Comes to Baltimore:  So maybe a part of you is interested in kink but you'd like to learn a bit more before you venture into "The Scene." Maybe you saw an old DVD of 9-1/2 Weeks or read Shades of Grey & it ignited something w/in you. Perhaps you're just tired of mainstream life so you're looking to explore some inner sense of desire. Well, then there'ss a special conference made just for you. Please see Metro Calendars for links & more.

New Faces at the Crucible - 2 Hot Nights:
  • Risque - The maiden voyage of Crucible's new monthly night took flight on March, 29th. Under the guiding hand of DJ Cosmo, we can attest to its absolute success. In fact, it was possibly one of the best nights the Crucible has ever hosted. With a deeper focus on music, a beautiful high energy crowd created the perfect balance between dance, party, & play. Hosted the final Friday of each month, it's a new face for an old stand-by & a new night well worth checking out.
  • College Park Kink - Serving as DC's most recent entry for the TNG crowd, CPK has not only brought a new generation to the scene, but has created a bangin' new night for The Crucible. With Mr. Fox at the helm, the monthly event draws a young beautiful crowd of up & coming kinksters. The level of play is very high, social engagement is good, & capacity crowds fill the space. Hosted on the 2nd Friday of each month, it's a night to definitely keep an eye on.

Philly Shakes Up - From the ashes of Nocturne & Sex Dwarf (both now closed), comes UnScene Philly, Vortex, as well as a new resurgence in Philly's alt dance scene. See News & Notes for the full story.

Asylum 13 brings the Underground to Delaware - When one thinks of a hotbed for the Alternative music scene, Wilmington, Delaware rarely comes to mind. But Asylum 13 has changed all that. Hosting both live bands & top DJ's from around the region, blending specialty nights that cater to the kink scene & burners alike, this weekly dance night has made quite an impact. Indeed, not far from Baltimore or Philly & worth the drive from DC, Asylum 13 is definitely one to check out.

-----------------------------------------------

These are just a FEW of what we've recently listed. We could go on for pages…  WAY too much for a simple newsletter. So for items such as info on the Baltimore Playspace, Fetfest Playspace, Orpheus, the Attic, DC Eagle, Omega, Red Palace, & a host of others - be sure to check out News & Notes.

For a full rundown of events not to be missed, be sure to check out our Main Calendar, Recurring Events, National Events, & Featured Events. Not sure what you're in the mood for? Then just brows through Clubs & Groups until you find something that catches your eye.

In the meantime, on a personal note, should we ever cross paths then please be sure to grab me & say hi. I am forever looking to connect with people who have an open mind, a thirst for adventure, & the passion to seek out a path outside the norm.

I wish you all good times, healthy travels, & a sense of discovery as you explore the underground!
